Privacy Notice
BuildAudit Zambia ("we", "us") helps house owners in Zambia estimate building materials and track purchases and site work. This notice explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to follow Zambia's Data Protection Act, 2021.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your email address and password (the password is stored in scrambled form, we cannot read it) | To create your account and let you sign in |
| Your project information: house plan sizes, prices, purchases, costs, timeline, daily site logs, supervisor names and photos you upload | To provide the estimate, tracking and reports you asked for |
| Team details: the email of a builder an owner invites, and their role | To give your builder access to the Site Log only |
| Usage records: when you sign in, which pages and features you open, and a short description of your browser or phone | To keep the service working, see what is useful, and improve it |
| Sample visitors (no account): a random anonymous number stored in your browser, and which sample features you tried | To count visitors and see which features people want |
| If you ask for an expert site visit: the site location, your phone number, the date you prefer and your notes. If a visit is done, the engineer's written report | To arrange the visit and give you the report |
| Messages you send us by phone or WhatsApp | To answer you |
We do not ask for your national ID, bank or mobile money details, and we do not collect your exact location.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your project to you, and to your builder if you invited one (builders see only the Site Log).
- To contact you about your account or help you when you ask.
- To understand usage in general, for example how many people sign up.
If you request a site visit, we share your site location, phone number and notes with the engineer or expert who will visit you, only for that visit.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
We use trusted services to run the app. They process data for us under their own security measures:
- Supabase: sign-in and database storage.
- Vercel: hosting of the website.
- Vercel Web Analytics: counts visits to the site (pages viewed, country, type of device). It does not use cookies and does not follow you across other websites.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr: load the app's fonts and code. Your device contacts them when the page opens, so they can see your internet address.
Some of these services store data outside Zambia. If you use the WhatsApp buttons, WhatsApp's own terms and privacy rules apply to that conversation. We may share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and project data, except records we must keep by law.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to us using it. Call or WhatsApp us on the numbers below and we will respond as soon as we can. If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, you can complain to Zambia's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
Security
Data is sent over an encrypted connection, and access to each project is limited to its members by database rules. No online service is perfectly secure, so use a strong password and do not share it. If you stop using a shared phone, sign out.
Your browser's storage
The app stores small items in your browser, such as your sign-in, your display choices, site-log entries waiting to upload when the signal is poor, and the anonymous visitor number described above. It does not use advertising cookies.
Children
BuildAudit Zambia is for adults. It is not meant for children under 18.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
